Airport Guide

Seven Dallas airports, one right answer.

The Metroplex has more business-aviation runways than any metro in the country. Picking the right one saves thirty minutes on the ground in each direction — here is how we choose for our own clients, airport by airport.

In Detail

What we tell our own clients.

Dallas Love Field (DAL) — the default

Ten minutes northwest of downtown on Lemmon Avenue — where our office sits. Signature, Jet Aviation and Business Jet Center compete on the field, which keeps fuel and handling honest and service sharp. The 8,800-ft runway takes everything up to a Global 6000, customs is available on-field for Cabo and Bahamas returns, and turns are the fastest in the Metroplex. Unless you live north of LBJ, this is your airport.

Addison (ADS) — North Dallas headquarters

A dedicated business-aviation field with zero airline traffic — no holds, no flow control, no airline wake. For clients in Preston Hollow, Plano, Frisco and Legacy West, Addison routinely beats Love Field door-to-door even though the charts say otherwise. Million Air and Galaxy FBOs anchor the field. One caveat: the 7,203-ft runway is plenty for Dallas–either coast, but maximum-weight intercontinental departures sometimes step over to DFW or Alliance.

Dallas Executive (RBD) — the south side play

Formerly Redbird, ten miles south of downtown with uncongested airspace and quick I-35E/I-20 access. Landing and handling fees run below Love Field, and the ramp is never crowded — worth a look for southern suburbs, DeSoto and Cedar Hill, and for operators staging aircraft overnight.

DFW International — the connector

Private ops at DFW are about one thing: intercontinental range and airline connections. The longest runways in Texas, 24/7 customs and every heavy jet made — but you pay for it in taxi time and fees. We route clients here when a London or São Paulo departure needs maximum fuel, or when a party is connecting off a long-haul airline arrival and wants the shortest possible transfer.

Fort Worth Meacham (FTW) and Alliance (AFW) — west side options

Meacham is Fort Worth's Love Field: ten minutes from downtown, two solid FBOs, and the obvious choice for Stockyards, TCU and Cultural District trips. Alliance, built around the Perot family's logistics development, offers a 9,600-ft runway and ramp space the in-town fields can't match — the pick for large-cabin fleets based in Keller, Southlake and the Alliance corridor.

McKinney National (TKI) — the new reliever

Collin County's own jet field, freshly expanded with a growing FBO scene and none of Addison's pattern traffic. If home is Frisco, Allen or McKinney, TKI can cut ground time to under twenty minutes — and operators based there often quote sharper repositioning on North Dallas departures.

FAQ

Airports, straight answers.

Which Dallas airport is best for private jets?

For most travelers, Dallas Love Field (DAL): it is 15 minutes from downtown, handles the majority of the city's private departures and has three full-service FBOs competing on service. If you are based in North Dallas, Plano or Frisco, Addison (ADS) is often faster door-to-door and is dedicated entirely to business aviation.

Can heavy jets use Addison Airport?

Yes — Addison's 7,203-ft runway handles Gulfstream and Global-class aircraft routinely. For intercontinental departures with maximum fuel and a full cabin, some operators prefer DFW or Alliance for their longer runways, but Dallas–London in a G450 departs Addison without issue.

How early should I arrive for a private flight from Dallas?

Fifteen to twenty minutes before wheels-up is the norm at Dallas-area FBOs. Your car pulls to the aircraft side or a private lounge, luggage goes straight to the hold, and there is no security line. International departures add customs formalities — plan 30–45 minutes.

Which airport should I use for Fort Worth?

Fort Worth Meacham (FTW) for most trips — it is 10 minutes from downtown Fort Worth with two strong FBOs. Alliance (AFW) suits north Fort Worth, Keller and Southlake, and its 9,600-ft runway suits heavy jets and large-cabin fleets.
